CASE STUDY:
ASIAN AMERICAN VISIONARIES
Short Film Competition
CAMPAIGN
Capitalizing and expanding on the success of the first two years of
the competition, HBO supported and promoted the Asian American
Visionaries Short Film Competition – dedicated to showcasing
emerging filmmakers with unique perspectives of the Asian-American
experience. Kicking the competition off in July via social media and
a custom landing page, filmmakers were encouraged to submit through
a call to action video from the 2019 Ambassador, Sujata Day from
Insecure. Receiving hundreds of submissions that reflect the modern
day Asian Pacific American experience, the completion closed in
November, selecting the top three films as the 2019 Visionaries. The
winning filmmakers were celebrated with a red-carpet premiere
screening of their films and a moderated discussion hosted by Sujata
Day. Additionally, APAV was seamlessly integrated into key festival
including Sundance, Kollaboration’s EMPOWER Conference, and
CAAMFest.
